2020 TATs Introduce Flexibility To Service Learning

Take Action Tuesday, now Take Action Today (TAT), is IST's service-learning initiative at the secondary campus. This year, the program consists of 11 student-led groups. These groups, working in collaboration with community partners, fellow students, and the IST community, will address real-life issues, developing students' skills in dealing with real-world challenges.

Unlike previous years, TAT groups will have a much more flexible timetable this school year. Students are now free to organize their group activities throughout the week, not just on Tuesdays. Students will now be able to join more than one group at a time, and group leaders will have a much easier time organizing activities.

These TAT groups fall into four different types based on the overarching goal of the group; Direct, Indirect, Research, and Advocacy.

Direct - Groups of this type involve hands-on work or one-to-one collaboration with community partners. An example of this type of activity available this year is Knitted Knockers.

Knitted Knockers TAT knitting up some knockers,  2020 - 2021 school year.

Indirect - Groups of this type involve activities that do not require one-to-one collaboration with the community or partners.

Research - Research groups are focused on finding new information that will help in understanding the challenge or contribute to making a solution.

Advocacy - Groups of this type are focused on raising awareness of local and global issues.

With the flexible schedule this year, students are excited to learn and contribute towards solving real-life issues. Stay tuned. Over the coming weeks, we'll be exploring individual groups. We are excited to see their work!
