From the Principal's Desk
At lunchtime today, the Student Action Council (SAC) organised their 2nd Waste Free Picnic of the year. This again helped to raise awareness about the need to reduce waste on a daily basis. Waste today - both food and packaging, was extremely low! Thanks to SAC and Ms. Danieal for organising.
Earlier this week young enterprising students from KG and Grade 4 organised and delivered a Milkshake Stall and Lemonade Stand. Both were very successful and funds have been raised for very worthwhile causes.
Juggling Show: TONIGHT!!
This evening, Friday 12 April over 30 ES students will be putting on a Juggling Show in the MPH starting at 6.30 pm. This is open to the whole IST Community to come and watch some incredible talent from children aged 7-11. They will be juggling with balls, rings, clubs and who knows what else!
Book Fair Coming!
IST ES has our 2nd annual Elementary Book Fair sponsored by Educraft Tanzania happening in April. Educraft is returning again this year with a number of great titles for our students. The Book Fair will take place next week April 16-18. April 18 is Student Led Conference day, making it a great opportunity to share in your child's learning and to do some book shopping. The book fair will take place in the community room near the EC and KG classrooms. We NEED volunteers to help set up on Monday the 15th, as well as to help work at the Book Fair on April 16 -18. Volunteers like you make it possible for us to have fun events like Educraft's Book Fair! You can sign up HERE.
Thank you so much and happy reading!
Class Placements for 2019/20 School Year
In a few weeks time, teachers will be making tentative class lists for the 2019/20 School Year. Balanced classes are created taking into consideration gender, language needs, student support needs, academic ability, and personalities. We also aim to place children with at least one student they are friendly with from the previous school year. Classes cannot be finalised until August due to changes which happen over the long break.
Over the next two weeks if parents wish to make a request regarding placement for next year please visit our school counselors (Ms. Carole in room 26 for Grades 3-5 and Ms. Lynn in room 27 for Grades EC-2) to collect a form. However, please do note the following before making any request:
In our Parent Handbook we provide guidelines for parents regarding what they can and cannot request regarding placement:
- Requests for specific teachers cannot be honoured
- Requests to avoid placing a child with a particular homeroom teacher may, under special circumstances, be considered
- Requests to pair specific children cannot be honoured
- If possible, requests to separate children who are known to disrupt each other's learning will be considered
The final date for submitting a request will be in two weeks time: Thursday, April 18

The workshop will focus on:
- Why it's important to talk to children about sensitive topics such as natural disaster, death, terrorism, traumatic events.
- The tools you can use to have such conversations.
- How your child's developmental age can be a guide to deciding what to talk about.
