From the Principal's Desk
Our first Athletics Inter-house event of the year took place today. Grade 3 enjoyed a morning of running jumping and throwing. Everyone participated and competed well. The eventual winners were House Tembo and House Nyati, tied at 314 points each.
Whilst the Athletics was taking place Grade 1LP children were helping in the K-Gr2 assembly explaining how they have been 'filling buckets' in recent weeks and promoting a positive spirit in their class community.
Twenty Five parents attended the opening of the Community Room on Tuesday and the Principal's Coffee. As part of the Strategic Aim of an Engaged Community we were focusing on the different channels of communication at Elementary School and the different systems in place. We discussed Communication about Learning, General School Communication and specific communication with Front Office, the Nurses and Administration. The feedback from parents was very helpful and a summary sheet will be prepared for next week's bulletin.
It's a great addition to have a community room on campus. For those of you with EC children who have older children in school please feel free to use the room with your child between 1-1.40pm whilst you wait for school to finish for the older children. A selection of toys and games will be put in the room. The room will be used for EPN meetings, parents workshops as well as being another large meeting space for students/teachers.
Grade 5 Inter-house Athletics takes place on Monday October 1 from 7.20-9am. Parents are welcome!
Friday 12 October: Parent Teacher Conferences (PTC) - Sign Up Next Week!
Parent/Teacher Conferences (PTC) take place on Friday October 12. This conference is for teachers and parents only. Students are not at school on this day. Next Monday, October 1, parents will receive an email with a link to sign up for an appointment slot to meet your child's Home Room Teacher. If you have only one child at Elementary School please wait until Wednesday October 3 before you sign up. This will enable those parents with more than one child to sign up first and coordinate appointments. Thank you for your assistance with this. This sign up is not through CHQ but has been introduced by our new Director of Technology David Hunt. We're confident the process will be straightforward for parents.
To make a time to meet specialist teachers on conference day parents are asked to sign up on sheets which will be displayed near the Front Office. The sheets will be up for five school days starting Thursday October 4.
English Language Learners Parent Workshop
Next Tuesday's Parent Workshop is designed particularly for those students who have English as their second language. It will take place on Tuesday October 2 at 7.15am in the Community Room. The Community Room is in the KG/EC Quad and was Ms Minal's Art Room last year.
Also next week is an opportunity to hear more about the MAP tests which the students in Grades 3-10 took two weeks ago. Tina Fossgreen will be explaining how to read the results of the MAP tests. The workshop takes place on Thursday October 4 at Secondary School in the Library starting at 8am. Parents coming to this workshop will receive their child's results at the end of the session. All other parents will receive their child's results with an explanation sheet on Friday October 5. On Friday February 12 October at Parent Teacher Conferences if you would like to understand more about MAP and your child's results please come and see Tina Fossgreen or myself.
On Friday it is the turn of Grade 4 students to enjoy some Athletics. Their inter-house begins at 7.20am. There will be no assembly next Friday
Ignite: A cross campus evening of Music on Saturday October 6 at Secondary School. This student led initiative was started two years ago and has been a great success. Elementary and Secondary School musicians will be performing in the ambient setting of the Twiga Quad. The concert begins at 6pm and will last for approximately 90 minute.
