IST Secondary Takes Action
As you will know, Dar has been hit hard by flooding over the last week. Many have lost lives, belongings and homes. At IST we have decided to organise an emergency supply drive to help support those unfortunate people in our community. Each year group has been allocated an essential supply to bring in to school. They are as follows:
Grade 6 and 7 = Toothbrushes and toothpaste
Grade 8 and 9 = Soap
Grade 10 and 11 = Mosquito spray
We are also looking for anyone to donate mosquito nets, blankets, sheets, pillows, clothing (especially warm sweaters). These can all be new or used.
We would really appreciate it if you could support this emergency appeal by sending in any of the above items with your child next week. The deadline for donation will be Wednesday April 25th. The collection will then be passed onto the Lions Club of Dar es Salaam Tanzanites for distribution to those in need.
Thank you very much in advance for your support.
There are three distinct and valuable parent learning experiences planned for upcoming weeks that we hope you will join us for. The workshops that we have offered this year are all related to our guiding question.
How might we build stronger partnerships with parents?
Parent Athletics/Activities Meeting
Wednesday, April 25
7:45 - 8:45 am
Also on the agenda for the coming weeks Joe Seavey, our Athletics and Activities Coordinator, and I will be meeting with parents on April 25 to discuss the future of our athletics and co-curricular activities. The meeting is designed to provide parents with information on our current program, plans for the future, as well as, allow them the opportunity to share their ideas for planning. We realize that these programs are an extremely important aspect of our overall curricular program and see this as an opportunity to improve already comprehensive and strong programs.
Internet Safety Tips for Parents

Dan Flynn, our ICT Coordinator will be sharing tips, ideas, resources for parents to consider when having discussions at home with your children. He will also share technological tools that can provide a great level of security for the family.
Trust: A 2-Way Street
Wednesday, May 16
7:45 - 8:45 am
In relationships, trust is an essential component. But, what is this sometimes seemingly "intangible" thing we call trust among parents and teens? How is it built and maintained on this two-way street? How does one repair when a breach occurs? Please join the secondary counsellors for an important discussion about supporting your parent-child relationship through the teen years.
Have a wonderful week!
