From the Principal's Desk

Dear Parents,

This morning in assembly many Grade 5 students presented small elements of their Exhibition Inquiries. They were all related to the theme of Earth Day which is celebrated around the world this Sunday April 22nd. Thanks particularly to the Friends of the Forest Exhibition group: Mali, Montanay and Olivia who also organised Funky Forest Friday, the assembly and planted trees with Grade 1 students in the garden behind the library!

Dubai Sporting Exchange

22 Grade 4 and 5 students are very excited as they prepare to travel to Dubai next week to compete in a basketball and swimming exchange. This is the first time we have taken elementary students on an international sporting exchange to Dubai.

We hope to establish a positive relationship with the competing schools so that we can continue such fixtures in the coming years.

Keep an eye out in next weeks bulletin for the trip highlights and experiences.

School Uniform

Please can I remind students and parents of the school uniform expectations which are included in the Parent Handbook and copied below. There has been an increase in students wearing denim recently which is not acceptable attire. Please can we ensure that correct uniform is worn from Monday onwards.

The Elementary Campus uniform is the school polo shirt with IST logo, worn with:

Navy blue or black long trousers (not denim)

•Navy blue or black shorts

•Girls - navy blue or black leggings, skirts or skorts of a respectable length

For PE days, students should wear a grey t-shirt with IST logo, blue shorts or skorts, and appropriate trainers or sneakers (no crocs or sandals).

On swimming days, students should bring swimwear and a towel in a swim bag or plastic bag for wet clothes (swim cap and goggles are optional).

Polo shirts and PE uniforms can be purchased from the school uniform shop.

Footwear should be safe, secure and appropriate for all school activities. No flip flops or shoes without a strap at the heel are allowed, and for safety reasons we strongly advise against students wearing open-toed sandals to school.

Jewelry should not be worn to school. Generally, anything worn by students that interferes with safety or learning is not suitable for school.

Class Placements for 2018/19 School Year

very soon teachers will be making tentative class lists for the 2018/19 School Year. Balanced classes are created taking into consideration gender, language needs, student support needs, academic ability and personalities. We also aim to ensure that children are placed with at least one good friend from the previous school year. Classes cannot be finalised until August due to changes which happen over the long break.

Until next Wednesday, 25 April if parents wish to make a request regarding placement for next year please visit our school counselors (Ms. Carole in room 26 for Grades 3-5 and Ms. Lynn in room 27 for Grades EC-2) to collect a form. However, please do note the following before making any request:

In our Parent Handbook we provide guidelines for parents regarding what they can and cannot request regarding placement:

Requests for specific teachers cannot be honoured

Requests to avoid placing a child with a particular homeroom teacher may, under special circumstances, be considered

Requests to pair specific children cannot be honoured

If possible, requests to separate children who are known to disrupt each other's learning will be considered

We are extending the the final date for submitting a request to Wednesday April 25
