From the Principal's Desk

At Wednesday's SPN meeting we presented information on our plans for all students to bring their own laptops (BYOL), the importance of student using meta-cognitive skills at April's student-led conferences, the administrative restructuring process that we are working on for 2018, and our plans to meet with parents and students to assist us with planning improvements to our activities and athletics programs. I will continue to share this information with parents in the weeks to come and the next available opportunity is at the Open Forum on March 14. These are all improvements that we feel will benefit our students and teachers. I also highlighted the Theory of Knowledge (ToK) parent learning experience that our ToK teachers organized. Parents who attended were able to better understand a student's ToK experience and they were appreciative of the opportunity to see learning in process. We will be organizing more events like this for parents to witness learning first hand.

With one week until vacation we still have a musical recital, TEDx Youth @ Upanga, the Grade 12 Student Involved Conferences, IST's Open Forum, the Diploma Program Visual Arts and Design Tech exhibit and several football matches. During the break we have students traveling to Nepal for trekking and to Switzerland for skiing. Two wonderful learning experiences which take place outside the walls of IST and the border of Tanzania. These are just some of the learning opportunities that provide students with a balanced educational program where they can explore areas of interest and strengths. A big thank you goes out to our faculty members who plan and run these experiences outside of the regular school day.

Have a wonderful week!
