Parents Make a Positive Contribution to Our Community
Role of Parents
IST is unique in Tanzania in that we are a parent governed, independent, not-for-profit school. Parent participation is an important component of enhancing our learning community. Parents participate in workshops to learn more about the IB programmes, internet safety and awareness, child protection, and technology updates as well to learn how to support their children through the process of university applications. Parents serve as volunteers on the Board, they coordinate the Elementary and Secondary Parent Networks, they serve as guest speakers, class parents and grade level representatives.
Elem. Parent Network (EPN)
The EPN strongly values the community we have at IST and is an information and support group for parents by parents.
Who is in it?
All parents are welcome. The EPN is a volunteer organization which serves to promote the positive involvement of all parents within the school learning community.
When do they meet?
The EPN meets once a month usually in the Elementary Campus staffroom. Dates and times are posted on the calendar and in the Weekly Bulletin.
Sec. Parent Network (SPN)
The IST Secondary Parent Network (SPN), together with the Principal, Board, Administration, and faculty of IST, extends a warm welcome to the community and an offer of support to make your transition as smooth as possible.
IST encourages a collaborative approach to the student-school-family relationship. This approach enhances the overall social integration, emotional wellbeing and academic success of your child both inside and outside the classroom.
SPN meetings are normally held once a month in the morning on the Secondary campus and all parents of Secondary students are invited. Scheduled meetings are posted on the calendar and in the Weekly Bulletin.
