Save the Date: International Day November 2018
Please save the date of November 2nd, 2018, when we will commemorate IST's 55th Anniversary in an all -school International Day Celebration. The Parent Networks, for both campuses, are instrumental in organizing this event, and will work with students to make sure this day is memorable.

2018-19 Calendar Amendment
Please note that the 2018-19 Calendar has been amended. The tentative date for the Maulid Holiday has moved from 26th November to 21st November. Note, this date is still tentative and will depend on the sighting of the moon. An updated calendar is available for download on our website. For convenience, please go to the link below to view.

Football Clinic at IST
On June 21st, Standard Chartered will be hosting a football clinic at IST Elementary School Campus. The clinic will take place from 2 - 5 pm and will include former Liverpool Captain, Sami Hyypia and will involve children from the ages of 5 - 15. As hosts of the event, Standard Chartered has agreed to allow for 40 IST students to participate in the clinic. We will be collecting names and providing spots on a first come, first served basis. If you would like your child to participate, please email Nasreen Nanji prior to June 13th. For more information, follow link below.

From the Board
As announced earlier, four new volunteers were elected and two returning members were re-elected to the IST Board at the Annual General Meeting. The Board held their orientation meeting on June 2nd and appointed the executive committee as well as conveners for the other four committees. For 2018-19, the Board structure is described below.

MESSAGE FROM THE BUSINESS OFFICE
We wish to inform parents whose children are returning to IST next school-year that fee invoices for the 2018-19 have now been emailed. Please pay the amount due as indicated on the invoice as soon as you can or at least by the first payment deadline of August 17th 2018, regardless of the payment plan selected. In the event you have not received electronic copies of invoices or wish to have more information, please feel free to contact the following staff in the Fees Department. Facility Use During June/July Break: Pools and Libraries
With the long school break, there are still plenty of options to be at school. Parents can accompany their children to use the pools and libraries. These are great opportunities! Please do come with your school issued ID and note that children under 12 years of age who are swimming need to be accompanied by a responsible adult. There will be an exceptional amount of work being done to the Secondary Facilities during the break, therefore the whole of the Secondary Campus is closed during the break with the exception of the Secondary pool hours noted below.

From the Director's Desk
We are currently planning our last day of school to celebrate this year with all students and parents. Our last day of school will be Wednesday, June 13th and will be a 1/2 day for all students. We will be having divisional celebrations on both campuses, and have tried to develop a schedule which will allow parents to participate in assemblies on both campuses. Last day of school schedule • Secondary School Assembly, 8 am - 9 am • Elementary School Assembly, 10 am - 10:45 am • Elementary Dismissal, 11 am • Secondary Dismissal, 11:30 am

AISA Awards: Zara Franceschi and Knitted Knockers
The Association of International Schools in Africa (AISA) is delighted to announce the winners of this year's AISA Student Awards. Read the full report here from AISA >>. Two IST students were honored by AISA this year: AISA Award for Exellence: Zara Franceschi and AISA Outstanding Service Project Award: Knitted Knockers and Angelica Spence.

Knitted Knockers TAT
Knitted Knockers is a TAT that focuses on teaching its participants how to knit or crochet with the purpose of making knockers (breast prostheses). These knockers will then be distributed for free to women in Dar and other parts of Tanzania through cancer clinics and hospitals. To carry this work forward, the TAT is looking for high school students who can take the rolls of secretary, treasurer and marketing officer. It is a great opportunity for CAS experience and project if you are going to be in IB next year. Parents: Please contact if you are interested in donating materials, volunteering to teach the students or knitting/crocheting knockers. Follow link for more information

New Secondary PE kit!!
As of August, we will be selling a new shirt for PE which will be navy blue with our new Twiga logo on the left breast. The cost of the shirt will be 20,000Tsh. This will be available as both round neck and v-neck, with sizes from XS - XXXL in both boys and girls cuts!! Students as of August will no longer be able to wear this year's top and shorts. Daily Bulletin for Secondary Students
At IST Secondary, we want students to develop the skills of time management, planning and organising. The school shares a Daily Bulletin with students to help them keep track of important upcoming events and deadlines. The Lead Coordinators of the proposed United World Colleges (UWC) Short Course "Umoja: Coming Together to Understand Conflict" invited students to register for the course which will take place from June 19th to 28th at the International School Moshi (ISM) in Tanzania.
