Elementary Campus Fumigation
The Elementary Campus (grounds only) will be fumigated for mosquitoes on Sunday, 11th February, starting at 3pm. Parents, students and staff should not use the fields and facilities until Monday morning. Our apologies for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.

New Look to IST's Website Coming Next Week
Next week, the look of IST's website will receive an update. Thank you to all who provided feedback while the site was being formatted. We hope you find the new site easier to use because it takes advantage of responsive technology and is accessible from mobile devices as well as desktop computers and laptops. A Note from the ISSEA Swim Meet
Thank you to all the volunteers who helped with the ISSEA Swim Meet. The event was an amazing success, but without you, it could never have been nearly as wonderful. Your support, hospitality and enthusiasm fed into each and every day. So thank you once again, for making everyone feel at home, for allowing the event to be as exceptional as it was, and for supporting IST and their students in all their endeavors! Read more below.

Dengue fever alert in Dar es Salaam
Recently, there has been an increased number of Dengue cases in Dar Es Salaam. We have linked some information that was released from the IST Clinic recently to help highlight the symptoms and would encourage anyone with symptoms to make an appointment at the clinic. Maryglory Moshi Steven (IST Class of 2015)
IST Alumnae Maryglory Moshi Steven earned a full scholarship to continue her studies at Arizona State University (USA). She is in her third year of studying psychology and was recently featured in ASU's publication (, highlighting her many contributions to the ASU community.

This week, Tony talks about Seussical, Siku ya Furaha, mother tongue week and EPN news. He also highlights important events such as swim gala update and shares the calendar of events.

Siku Ya Furaha - Friday February 23rd
Siku Ya Furaha is coming up. It will be on Friday February 23rd. This is a day to celebrate Tanzanian culture and Kiswahili language in our school, but translates to Day of Happiness. We will kick off the day with an assembly during period 1 and then follow with various activities from Tanzania. Parents are welcome to come watch the assembly and look-in on what is happening in classrooms.Students and parents are encouraged to wear kanga, kitenge or Tanzania colours on the day. Elementary Math Evening: 'Math for the 21st Century' Wednesday, February 21st will be your last opportunity to hear our visiting consultant, Ellen Alquist, speak about how math instruction is changing to prepare students for the 21st century. Ellen is an internationally recognized expert in inquiry learning. Follow link below to read more details.

February 14th is Valentine Day where at IST the EPN will be setting up Friendship Dukas at break times from which you can buy gifts for your family, friends or just for yourself.

From the Principal's Desk
Blair this week talks about the just ended ISSEA games congratulating all those who participated and also giving highlights for the next week events including the beginning of ESP trips and providing more information about ESP as well as the Grade 12 mock exam schedule. He further talks about the THIMUN 2018 and the brief calendar of coming events.

Guests to Grade 10 Drama
This week, IST hosted four guests to meet with students in Grade 10 who were doing a project on Verbatim Theatre. The guests are urban refugees from Burundi, the Congo and Syria, and they came to IST to be interviewed by our students about their experiences as refugees. The project is one of five main units in Ms. Malina Patel's drama class.

Parent session: MYP Math for the 21st Century
Parent session: MYP Math for the 21st Century;If you were not able to attend this session in October by Ellen Alquist, an internationally recognized expert in inquiry learning, you have a second chance as Ellen visits us again in February! Please join us from 6:00-7:00 pm on Thursday 22 February in the D-block learning commons at Secondary for a parent session on MYP Math for the 21st Century: using inquiry and conceptually-based teaching.

ISSEA Swimming and Basketball Results
It was a frantic and fast paced weekend both here in Dar as well as across the continent in Harare, Zimbabwe, as the 2018 ISSEA Basketball and Swimming championships happened. In Dar, we had an amazing swim meet with schools representing IST!, Kenya, Uganda, South Africa, Mozambique and Zambia hosted at the Elementary Campus. The three days presented 7 new ISSEA swim records, and countless amazing finishes. Follow link below to see the results.

At IST Secondary, we want students to develop the skills of time management, planning and organising.
