Call for our ISSEA Swim Homestay program
We still need roughly space for 30 more student-athletes. If you can help, just fill out this form (ISSEA Swim Hosting Survey) accessed through the link below. Thank you to those who have already signed up, and your hosting information will be coming at the end of next week. We are also looking for volunteers to help with the event, and to help us stock our coach's and officials' rooms. If you would like to help with this, you can email myself (Jseavey@istafrica.com) or Ms. Roelse (Troelse@istafrica.com).

Food Lover's Market Canteen Card
The canteen card is very simple to use. It provides a faster check out to handle a large queue of people in a shorter period of time and eliminates the unhygienic nature of coins and bank notes. Canteen card deposits are accepted at both the Elementary and Secondary Canteens. In addition, parents can make card deposits via phone transfer to Airtell Money 0788 436 820 -or- Mpesa 0768 109 645. Just be sure to send a follow up text to the same number, at the time of deposit, with card holder's name and card number so that the card will be credited. Please note that cards can no longer be topped up via deposit to FNB.

Elementary Pool Closed: 12th-14th January and 19th January
This weekend, January 12th to 14th, IST Elementary will be hosting a clinic led by FINA. The clinic is geared for officials from the Tanzania Swimming Association who will be working to maintain or earn their official's license. Unfortunately, the Elementary Pool will be closed to members of the IST community during this time but we are honoured to help support this worthwhile function which promotes the sport of swimming in Tanzania. On Friday, 19th January the Elementary Pool will be closed at 3pm for maintenance. Apologies in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.

Elementary News

From the Principal's Desk
This week, Tony highlights important events that are coming up such as After School Activities, the January Three Way Conference, a Pajama Party for Grades 1 and 4, and Swim Gala date changes. He also shares the calendar of upcoming events.

Yearbook Cover Design Competition
The Yearbook Team is running a competition open to all students to design the cover of this year's yearbook. Deadline is 1st February. Read details below.

Private Swim Club
On Tuesdays and Thursdays after school (following ASAs) our Lifeguards/Swim Coaches offer group swimming lessons as a private club arrangement. Four sessions in the month cost 50,000 TZ and eight sessions cost 100,000 TZ. We are planning to organise the sign up for this through CHQ (New ASA sign up system) in due course to make the club a little more formalised. Please speak to Aisha Mapendu or Megan Hardeman at the PE Office for more details.

Secondary News

From the Vice Principal's Desk
Trixie Siemens, Secondary Vice Principal shares news about Semester One reports and GISS which is being held in Nairobi this year. She also asks parents for help to support our coming up ISSEA Swim Meet and, last but not least, news about Hussein Janmohamed, one of our Class of 2018 Seniors, who gave a talk at TEDxYouth@Msasani last year in February. You can now view Hussein's presentation through the TEDx YouTube page. Follow link bellow for more information.

From the Athletics and Activities Coordinator
Our Activities sign up will switch to the new CHQ platform that the Elementary school piloted at the end of last year. You and your child will receive a link this weekend for our activities sign-up. Just like in the Elementary school, you will get to help your students sign up for activities and make sure that they are taking part in a healthy combination of physical, mental and artistic options.

Daily Bulletin for Secondary Students
At IST Secondary, we want students to develop the skills of time management, planning and organising. The school shares a Daily Bulletin with students to help them keep track of important upcoming events and deadlines. To help parents support their children as they develop these skills, we are also sharing a link to the same Daily Bulletin with parents through this article for quick reference.
