IGNITE Music Festival 2017
The IST community is invited to the second IGNITE Music Festival to be held in the IST Secondary Courtyard on Saturday the 7th of October from 6-8pm. Come and enjoy a variety of performances from both Elementary and Secondary students as well as the school groups (bands and choirs) from both campuses.

An Invitation to Join Us: Student Voice
Join us for an in depth discussion being hosted at IST Secondary on Tuesday, October 10th from 4 to 6pm. Seats are limited and advance registration is required, but attendance is free. To register, complete the form online through the link. We hope to see you there!

IST Valid ID Cards
Please check if you have a valid IST ID card. Parents and staff can request a new or replacement ID card by sending an email to To request an ID for ayahs, nannies, drivers other members of your household, please complete the ID request form online by using the link sent to parents via email.

From the Principal's Desk
This week, Tony shares news about this morning's Grade 4 and 5 Music and Diversity concert. Also he gives an overview of coming events such as Pajama Party Read in which is this evening, Parent Workshop: Seesaw, Ignite!, Director's Coffee at Secondary, Parent Teacher Conferences and the calendar. Discovery Learning Alliance and IST
In 2015, the Discovery Learning Alliance ( commissioned a documentary about children's rights. The documentary is aimed at young children and recently won two prizes at the New York Festival with the United Nations Department of Public Information (UNDPI). The UNDPI award is for a film that "best exemplifies the ideals and goals of the United Nations." Chris Morgan produced the documentary and a few IST students are featured in the opening sequence >> The film was released last year on DVD and made available to schools. It's not yet publicly available online but Chris has shared the link with us.

Utilizing Kindness Weeks to Build a Culture of Empathy
Lynn Kogelmann, IST Elementary Counselor, is a member of the International School Counselor Association. Lynn recently published the following article for the benefit of ISCA members and we are republishing it here to help the IST community better understand the steps the school is taking to build a culture of empathy. Thank you Lynn and all IST Counselors for your important work!

The First IST Elementary Pajama Party: Grades 2 and 3
We are gearing up to bring the first ever IST Pajama Party to our students! Tonight (Friday, October 6th), students and their parents from Grades 2 and 3 are invited to come to school for an evening of stories, hot chocolate, pj's, stuffed animals, and snacks! Students will arrive between 6:30 and 7:00 pm in the Elementary MPH where there will be some small group stories going on. At 7:00pm, students will go to the classrooms of their choice to listen to stories in English, their home language, or to just read quietly with mom or dad. The evening will finish around 7:45pm.

Blair Peterson highlights some of the activities taking place at IST Secondary including a discussion on Student Voice, the IGNITE concert and the Assembly on October 13th. Parents are warmly welcome to attend this assembly which marks the end of the term.

Rotary Dar Marathon: October 14th
