Looking Forward to Seeing You: Board Open Forum, Sept. 27th, 7pm
The IST Board of Directors is delighted to invite you to the first open Board Forum for the school year 2017-18 on Wednesday, 27th September 2017 at the IST Secondary Campus Library at 7pm. The Board Open Forum is an opportunity to understand the strategic focus of the school and an opportunity for members of our community to ask questions in that regard. See your email inbox from September 19th for more details on this annual event. We look forward to seeing you there!

IST Swimmers Competing in CANA: October 19th, Dar es Salaam
CANA is the Africa Swimming Confederation and, this year, the Zone 3 Championships will be held in Dar es Salaam. Six countries will be competing in the three day event and IST is honoured to have some of our students be selected to participate.

Round Square and IST: Extending Our Reach
Last week, the SPN shared details with Secondary parents about how they can help support a community in South Africa which some IST students will visit in a week's time as part of IST's membership in Round Square. All parents are invited to help support our students in their outreach efforts. Support can be offered in two ways. Read more below.

The Role of Parents at IST
More than 100 parents turned out for the World Cafe events hosted recently by Dr. Mark Hardeman, IST Director. Events such as these demonstrate the important role parents play at our school.


Elementary News

From the Principal's Desk
This week, Tony shares news about the new Elementary Rock Band and Grade 3 Rappers as well as Grade 5 Athletics Inter-house. Other highlights include Grade 4 Mosquito Busters, a Read In Pajama Party, Parent Workshop and important dates for your calendar.

The First IST Elementary Pajama Party: Grades 2 and 3
We are gearing up to bring the first ever IST Pajama Party to our students! On Friday, October 6th, we will invite the students from Grades 2 and 3 to come to school for an evening of stories, hot chocolate, pj's, stuffed animals, and snacks! Students will arrive between 6:30 and 7:00 pm in the Elementary MPH where there will be some small group stories going on. At 7:00pm, students will go to the classrooms of their choice to listen to stories in English, their home language, or to just read quietly with mom or dad. Read more below including about how you can sign up to volunteer to read to a group of children.

Secondary News

From the Principal's Desk
Blair Peterson talks about the importance of parental involvement in school life and how the school will continue to work with the SPN to develop events that will entice parents to visit the campus more. He also gives an overview of the upcoming events in the coming weeks.

Santa Surprise Project 2017: Assisted by the SPN
Many of you are already aware of the Santa Surprise initiative begun by Tertia Hayes in 2014. IST parents have been contributing to this initiative for a couple of years, but for those who are only hearing about this now, read below for more details. This project is assisted by the SPN (and EPN, too).

Daily Bulletin for Secondary Students
At IST Secondary, we want students to develop the skills of time management, planning and organising. The school shares a Daily Bulletin with students to help them keep track of important upcoming events and deadlines. To help parents support their children as they develop these skills, we are also sharing a link to the same Daily Bulletin with parents through this article for quick reference.

The Dar es Salaam Players will hold auditions on Tuesday, September 26th for their next production.

Tanzania Breast Cancer Foundation
The Tanzania Breast Cancer Foundation will hold their annual walk/run to raise awareness about breast cancer. The event takes place on Saturday, October 7th. Registration is now open. Follow the link below to learn more.
