IST’s Academic Profile: A Look at the Individuals IST Helps Produce

The International School of Tanganyika (IST) is an exceptional learning facility, which serves both expatriate and Tanzanian children from the diplomatic, development, non-governmental organization (NGO), local and international business sectors.

The population at IST is incredibly diverse with 424 Elementary students and 465 Secondary students, representing 66 different nationalities.

What Does IST Provide its Students?

IST provides a rigorous academic schedule through the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and the Diploma Programme (DP). Students do have the option to opt out of the IB Programme and earn a regular IST High School Diploma as well.

When it comes to co- and extra-curriculars, IST goes above and beyond providing exceptional opportunities for the students to learn skills that will last a lifetime. Some of the clubs offered at IST include the Model United Nations (MUN), Roots and Shoots, theatre, music and Student Council. Students also have the opportunity to join extra-curriculars whether it be on a varsity athletic team or more of a creative pursuit.

How did the Class of 2017 Score on their Final Tests?

Although the IB Programme is a rigorous one, the teachers at IST make sure students learn the skills necessary to successfully master the curriculum and prepare them for university. The Class of 2017 had 64 students all of whom were in the IB Programme. The IBDP pass rate was 88% with an average score of 34 - well above the world average score of 30

Where do IST Graduates Gain Admission to?

IST’s university and college matriculation over the past five years has been substantial with graduates attending exceptional post-secondary schools all over the world. Class of 2017 university admissions includes University of British Columbia, the University of Warwick and Boston University.

As evidenced above, IST provides all means necessary for students to succeed both while in Elementary and Secondary School and when they graduate and embark on their exciting futures.
