Five Ideas for a Parent’s Night Out

With a busy schedule that includes the children’s school and extra-curricular activities, work and trying to settle in, it can be hard to find one-on-one time with your partner. Here are five mid-week and weekend date night ideas that are romantic, relaxing and will provide you the atmosphere to reconnect with your partner.

1. Cape Town Fish Market, Msasani

Imagine sitting down at a table with your partner, holding their hand as you look out at the waterfront views. Both of you have a full glass of delicious wine and a plateful of authentic seafood. This might sound too good to be true, but in your new home in Dar es Salaam, it’s right around the corner. Cape Town Fish Market will quickly become your favorite restaurant.

2. Oasis Wine Bar and Coffee House, Masaki

With a delicious bottle of wine, delectable food and house music, Oasis is a fun night out for all couples. The atmosphere of this restaurant adds to the laid-back feel of the night, with African art-covered walls and backyard-styled benches.

3. High Spirit, City Centre

This is a suggestion for a weeknight date, rather than a weekend given this establishment turns into a club. High Spirit is the perfect place during the week to enjoy a yummy dinner, music and beautiful views of downtown Dar es Salaam.

4. Slipway Shopping Centre, Masaki

Adventuring around Slipway is an absolutely exceptional way to spend the day. Start off window shopping while walking along the oceanfront, then lose yourself in a story in one of Dar es Salaam’s best bookshops and finish off the day watching the sunset while eating some delicious, authentic Tanzanian food. Slipway has everything you need for a fantastic date-day.

5. South Beach, Kigamboni

Why not have a beach day, just you and your partner? This is a beautiful, peaceful and private escape from the buzz of downtown Dar es Salaam. Rent a banda thatch-covered hut for the day, lay back and close your eyes to the sound of wind blowing through the palm trees.

The ferry ride you’ll take to cross to the Kigamboni side of Dar es Salaam is just an added treat to the day.

To have a night out, you’ll need to make sure to find your children an excellent babysitter. Our parents' guide gives you that information and lots more about how to make Dar es Salaam your home.
