Rob Tate Head of Dept

The P.E Faculty at the Secondary School is responsible for a student’s Physical Education from Grade 6-10. In Grade 6, 7, 8 and 10 the students have one double lesson of P.E and one double lesson of swimming per week. In Grade 9 the students have three double lessons of P.E in two weeks which includes land and water based activities. There is also an optional IB1 class offered for the full school year.

The Grade 6-8 program takes on a more concept based approach to learning games where students will cover striking and fielding games, invasion games and net games. Individual sports include gymnastics, dance and aerobics. The pool based lessons will cover stroke work, personal survival, lifesaving, water polo, snorkeling, and synchronized swimming. In Grades 9 & 10 there is gap-bridging between formal P.E lessons and recreational sport/fitness which students will engage in after leaving the school environment. A "fitness for life" philosophy is a core theme throughout the school. The students start to have more choice in their learning at this level and take on more leadership roles and interact more within the community.

The faculty’s focus is to bring about student development of social and physical growth through the medium of sports.
