Creative Arts
Claudia Kennedy Head of Dept
The Arts are essential to learning and self-development. Arts education provides a unique combination of cognitive, affective, skills-based, personal and social learning to facilitate the development of a fully rounded individual, prepared for their life ahead. The Creative Arts Faculty begins with the premise that ALL students are creative artists who can participate successfully in a variety of art forms. All students have an entitlement to a full and varied Arts experience in the school. Arts education at IST is process orientated and values the 'product' or outcome of student creation.
The Creative Arts Faculty at IST is compromised of Drama and Theatre Arts; Music and Visual Arts. All subjects are taught throughout the school at MYP and IB levels.
The Faculty also makes a substantial contribution to the extra-curricular life of the school, including the Secondary School Musical/Play; Music concerts; the IST Arts Week; IB student directed theatrical plays; the MYP Play; the 24 Hour Drama Events; IB Art workshops with Tanzanian artists; the IB Theatre Arts field trip to Bagamoyo; Visual Arts exhibitions; the Creative Arts trip to the UK; also contributing to International Night and Graduation.
