Creative Arts
Nora Graham Head of Dept
The Arts are essential to learning and self-development. Arts education provides a unique combination of cognitive, affective, skills-based, personal and social learning to facilitate the development of a fully rounded individual, prepared for their life ahead. The Creative Arts Faculty begins with the premise that ALL students are creative artists who can participate successfully in a variety of art forms. All students have an entitlement to a full and varied Arts experience in the school. Arts education at IST is process orientated and values both the creative process and the 'product' or outcome of student creation.
The Creative Arts Faculty at IST is compromised of Drama and Theatre Arts, Music, and Visual Arts. All subjects are taught throughout the school at MYP and IB levels.
The Creative Arts Faculty also makes a substantial contribution to the extra-curricular life of IST. These contributions include offering after school music, drama and art activities; the Secondary School Musical/Play; Music concerts; IB student directed theatrical plays; the MYP Play; the 24 Hour Drama Events; IB Art workshops with Tanzanian artists; the IB Creative Arts field trips to Bagamoyo and other local art galleries and studios; Visual Arts exhibitions, including the IB Visual Artists’ exhibition, which takes place in early April. The creative arts department also contributes to school activities such as beatifying the campus, ISSEA, CAS events, International Night and Graduation.
