Outdoor Classroom Day: May 18th
Friday, May 19, 2017
Students from all over the globe celebrated learning outside on May 18th and some of our IST elementary teachers, specialist and their classes joined in. Earlier this week, classes planned out what they would need for the day, for example, binoculars, snacks, rain gear, and journals, to name a few. They discussed the possibilities of activities as some would be teacher run and many would be student-led inquiries. On Thursday, the weather turned out to be bright and sunny and excitement was in the air! If you took a walk around campus, you would have seen children learning about native plants, creating art and painting on the garden wall, planting their own moringa seeds, reading in the outdoor library, playing Kiswahili games, drinking homemade lemon grass tea, experiencing music, building tents with hammers and nails, taking part in regular daily lessons, doing yoga, and getting dirty! We hope to instill outdoor classroom time more often into our days as it benefits both the mind and body for any age.
