Laelia Surtees

Grade 5

I was born in England, U.K, but grew up on the Isle of Arran in Scotland. Since leaving Durham University in 1992 I have travelled, with my faithful backpack, to India, Nepal, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Belize, U.S.A, Zimbabwe, Egypt, Zambia, Botswana, Namibia, Malawi and more… My first teaching post in 1995 was in London at Eaton House School. I then ventured further afield to Kenya to teach at Pembroke House School which is an up country boarding school. In 1999 I began teaching at IST and over the years I have worked in all grade levels both in the Elementary and Secondary Schools. I took a quick break to spend some time with my own children, but have always had close connections with IST. IST is a fabulous school and I enjoy all aspects of it. I believe that learning should be an enjoyable and dynamic experience whilst having the opportunity to explore and develop new skills both creative and academic.
