Naiman, KKAREN NAIMAN

Grade 5

I qualified as a primary school teacher, majoring in Drama and began my teaching career in a primary school in Leeds, UK. I received my B.Ed.(Hons) from Leeds University where I majored in Communication Arts and Media Studies and continued on to gain a Masters in Education whilst serving as a teacher in a number of schools in Leeds. Whilst there, I met and married a Tanzanian and we relocated to Dar es Salaam. At IST I taught in the upper elementary grades and was team leader for a number of years. I then set up an international school in Tanga, Tanzania and was the principal for four years. With my older children ready for secondary school I moved back to IST.

During my tenure at IST I have taught in grades 3, 4 and 5 and have served on many curriculum and professional development committees. My children have enjoyed being students at the school and my elder daughter is now a member of the alumni committee. My son is studying at the secondary school and my younger daughter completed the IB Diploma and is at university in England. I feel very “at home” at IST and have enjoyed facing the challenges inherent in a dynamic international school such as ours
