My child needs to leave school early, who should I contact?
|
If you need to take your child out of school early the procedure is as follows. Where possible, let the class teacher know that you are taking your child out in advance. It is preferable for you to do this in writing (via email, note in the link book or a note to the teacher). To take a child out of school before the end of the school day you will need to go to the front office and ask Sarah Daniels to fill in a ‘gate pass’. This ‘gate pass’ is to hand to the guards at the gate to show that you have permission to take the child out of school, outside the regular pick up times.

Students (Grades 6 to 11) who are leaving early will need to sign out at the Secondary Campus Office and be granted a gate pass in order to leave campus. Grade 12 students will need to sign out. See the information in the Homework Diary and Student-Parent Handbook for more details.

| My child will be late to school, who should I inform? |
If your child is late for school he/she needs to report to the secretary Sarah Daniels, in the main Elementary Campus Office. Sarah will record your child’s arrival and then give your child a ‘late slip’ to give to his/her teacher. This ‘late slip’ lets the class teacher know that your child has reported to the front office and the register has been changed to show that your child is now in school. If your child goes straight to the classroom he/she will be sent back to the front office to let Sarah know that he/she is in school. It is vital that the school has an accurate record of who is in school at any given time.

| Who do I inform if both my partner and myself are leaving Dar es Salaam and our child(ren) are being left in someone else’s care? |
It is very important that the school is kept informed of who is responsible for a child in case of emergency. Therefore, if you are away from home and leaving your child in the care of another adult it is essential that you let the school know. Please inform your child’s class teacher in writing that you are leaving Dar and give the following information:
- The length of time you will be away.
- Contact details for you while you are away.
- The name and contact details (email and telephone number) of the responsible adult is in charge of your child.
- Please make sure that you leave contact details of an English speaking adult in case of emergencies.

All students in attendance at IST are expected to be in the care of a parent or a nominated adult guardian. IST does not consider household help to be suitable guardians. Changes in guardianship must be noted in writing to the school.
If the parent/guardian(s) are both out of Dar es Salaam for 24hrs or more, the school must be informed in advance as to the name, residential and mailing addresses and phone numbers of the person(s) designated to serve as temporary guardian.
