COOL TRIPS WITHIN TANZANIA

Are you new in Dar? Is this your first time here? I bet you are wondering what cool places there are to visit in this hot country. Well there are a lot of places to visit in Tanzania like national parks, mountains, craters and paradise beaches. Tanzania is full of surprises that people don’t yet know about and a wide range of places to go. Deciding exactly which safari or tour will suit you the best can be quite difficult.

There are six well-known national parks (but there are also many lesser-known) in Tanzania. Each park has its own features. The names of these parks are:

• Lake Manyara National Park – famous for large elephants and flamingos in the lake

• Serengeti National Park – probably the most famous, and home to the wildebeest migration when more than 1.5 million wildebeest move between Kenya and Tanzania

• Tarangire National Reserve – famous for lions in trees

• Ruaha National Park – a spectacular landscape, with a hippo-filled river and a large elephant population

• Selous Game Reserve – close to Dar, and you can even take a train ride through it and watch the animals

• Mikumi National Park – the closest game park to Dar, only four hours away by car

CRATERS…There is also a crater north of Tanzania, which was actually a volcano millions of years ago. The Ngorongoro Crater has over 30,000 species of animals and is about 4500 ft deep. There are many hotels on the top of the peaks and all of them have a beautiful view of the Crater. The Olduvai Gorge is found near the crater too. The Olduvai Gorge is where one of the most important fossils of humankind was found.

MOUNTAINS AND PEAKS… Do you like to go hiking? Would you like to climb the tallest mountain in Africa? Well then Mount Kilimanjaro is just the place for you. Mt. Kilimanjaro rises up to 5,894 meters or 19,340ft. It is located in the northern part of Tanzania. Mt Kilimanjaro has its own national park filled with baboons and other animals. There is also a nearby mountain in Arusha called Mount Meru. This is a good challenge for you 6th to 8th graders, unless you really want to go for Mount Kilimanjaro.

BEACHES AND WATER SPORTS…Everyone loves to go the beach. In Tanzania it’s the same. There are many beautiful beaches along the coast of Tanzania and Zanzibar. It does not matter, you can swim, play games on the beach, you can go jet-skiing or go quad biking with your friends, surfing, snorkeling or fishing. Whatever you want to do, you can do it in Tanzania.

So there you have it! These are just a few things to do in Tanzania. There are many other places you can go to. So don’t be afraid, it’s a really cool place once you have a tour. It’s like paradise!
