The International School of Tanganyika provides a variety of activities for students to attempt. Some of the activities are highly recommended to some students with difficulties. The students are asked to participate in at least one activity a week. The activities encourage the students to have broader interests.
Sports: Are you interested in: Basketball, Rounders, Soccer, Softball, Floor Hockey, Volleyball, Taekwondo, Swim Team, Climbing, Netball, and Cricket? If you are, then guess what? We have them.
Community Service: As part of the MYP and IB Diploma programmes students are required to participate in an activity known as community service. Below are some of the community service activities students choose to do:
• Buguruni School for the Deaf
• Art Garden
• Kurasini Orphanage
• Mother Teresa’s Orphanage
• Cancer Institute
• Matumaini
• Dar Animal Haven
• Interact
• Children’s Remand Centre
• African Song
• Peer Mediators
• Roots and Shoots
That is not all you can choose from - there is more!
Recommended Activities to Students: Some of the students need extra help in school. This help is provided by activities such as:
• Homework Assistance
• Math Club
• English for Support
• Math Assistance
• SOS Franscaise
Most of the activities start from 1:30 and onwards. At different times of the year the school has a play, which certain age groups are allowed to be included. If you are taking any part in the play, this counts as a community service activity. Here are some of the plays that have taken place:
• The Lion King
• Arabian Nights
• Fat of the Land
• The Big Friendly Giant
At the beginning of each term students are provided a list of available activities and then choose which activity they wish to participate in for the term. It is expected once a commitment is made for the term that students honor that commitment.
