I have always found Rough Guides to be a good starting point for exploration of a country and this is no exception. In addition to excellent guides to Tanzania and Zanzibar you can discover music, from Zanzibar and the coast to the Great Lakes Region with the Rough Guide to the Music of Tanzania. The Tanzania Guide includes sections on Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar.
I would recommend the Bradt guide to Tanzania. The author, Philip Briggs is something of an East Africa expert and he mixes well researched factual information with personal preference and opinion. The book is well written, balanced and a pleasure to read. Recommended!
If you prefer the Lonely Planet Guide to Tanzania, Zanzibar and . Traditionally Lonely Planet was the choice for the budget traveller but the scope of the guidebooks has expanded over recent years and these guides are as comprehensive as any others on Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, Zanzibar
There are sections on the Tanzanian National Parks in the guidebooks on this page. Additionally there are a few guides especially published on these Game Parks. You can also use the search boxes to look for one of the many books about Serengeti - your coffee table will never be the same again!
Learning the language is a great way to improve your experience of Tanzania and East Africa. Kiswahili is spoken in Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda.
Whether you are a dedicated birdwater or if your binoculars are searching the scrub for the Lion you are sure is out there - you should not visit Tanzania or east Africa without a Field Guide. As you would expect with such a diverse country there are huge numbers of different species to be found in Tanzania.
