GRADE TWO IST STUDENT WINS TRIP TO AUSTRALIA ZOO

Last April, Imogen Alexander (Grade 2M) entered a competition to try to win a trip to the Australia Zoo by making a 2 minute video, entitled "Dreams come true at Australia Zoo"
However, the aim of Imogen's video was to win the trip for her Tanzanian friend and his family, who previously had only been as far as Moshi on a bus and had never been on safari.

Her video highlighted the fact that her friend Godwin could never dream of even going on a plane, let alone going all the way to Australia. The video highlighted the plight of the highly endangered rhinoceros and suggested that by learning to be a "Wildlife Warrior" at Australia Zoo, Godwin could make a difference to wildlife in Tanzania.

The video was top 5 of 125 international entries thanks to votes from all around the world including many by IST students. Although Imogen did not win the original competition for her friend, the prize was much more fantastic than anyone could imagine. Terri Irwin (wife of the late Steve Irwin, Crocodlie Hunter) and daughter Bindi were so touched by the video that they invited Godwin, Imogen, all of Imogen's family and Godwin's mother to Australia for an amazing 6 day Australian adventure. This included a television appearance with the Irwins on Australian national TV, VIP treatment at the Zoo for Steve Irwin Day (a celebration of the life of Steve Irwin), a Whale watching adventure on the Steve Irwin Whale One and up close and personal experiences with lemurs, elephants, rhinos, snakes, koalas and kangaroos. The trip (including flights, accommodation, food and trips to the zoo) was all paid for by Terri Irwin.
It was an amazing experience for all involved and raised the awareness of all of us as to what we can do to become Wildlife Warriors.

Imogen, Godwin and their families would like to take this opportunity to thank all those IST students and parents who took the time and effort to vote for Imogen's video.
