The IST Elementary Library is a vibrant, welcoming place. Every student has one scheduled library lesson each week where the qualified teacher librarian reads stories, assists students in choosing books, helps with research projects and instructs in the use of the library resources. Visiting authors and illustrators come from overseas and East Africa throughout the year to help students better understand the writing process and oral storytelling traditions.
The Elementary Library has a comprehensive collection of nearly 20,000 up to date titles. All students are welcome to borrow up to 10 books each week. Parents are encouraged to come to the library before and after school any day to choose books with their children and to read and relax in the comfort of the library. The library is open for students to enjoy the library resources during both recess times. The library is open from 7am – 2:30pm every school day.

The library also has 75 Wi-fi netbooks for use within the school. Reliable school-wide wireless internet access makes these a valuable resource for research and instruction. We subscribe to several online databases and a wide range of educational children’s magazines. Additionally we have a home-language collection of books in 25 languages other than English.
