Grade Four
In Grade 4 we have an exciting programme which starts off with an engaging unit of inquiry into our host country called ‘Do People Change People’. Here we look at the trends and effects of colonialism in East Africa. The inquiry is brought to life with a fun-filled overnight class trip to Bagamoyo, a town about an hour north of Dar es Salaam, where museums, historical sights and relics are visited. We move on at a frenetic pace with inquiries that look at survival in hot and cold deserts of the world, concluding with various presentations by the students. We also research energy sources and address issues concerning our electricity problems here in Dar es Salaam with several field trips to different energy plants. Students also work on building their own circuits, experimenting with electricity. Communication is a focus in term two where all modes of communication through drama, music and ICT are explored. Ancient Egypt is the focus of our study into ancient civilizations and the year spirals to an end with the children looking into their rights and responsibilities. Throughout this year, students get more involved in researching for information and take on more responsibility for their learning while having fun learning.
