IB diploma and certificate programmes

Wendy Gifford (IBDP Coordinator)

Welcome to IST and to the IB Diploma and Certificate programmes which we offer in Grade 11 and 12.

IST has run courses leading to the IB Diploma and Certificates for more than 20 years and is the most experienced IB school in Dar es Salaam. It is an exciting yet demanding programme which is recognised by universities in many countries. In fact our students have gained entry to many of the best universities around the world including the University of Cambridge, the London School of Economics, Princeton, Yale, MIT and McGill. Not only is the IB an excellent academic preparation for higher education, it also encourages enquiry, community service and action in order to develop a rounded and internationally aware individual. Our teachers are well trained, and collectively have many years experience in delivering this programme. Our results from previous years can be viewed on this website.

The two years leading to graduation at IST are based primarily on courses leading to IB Certificates and the IB Diploma. Although courses are all IB courses, students must also participate in the school's CAS programme. Diploma students take 3 subjects at higher level, 3 subjects at standard level, and do an extended essay, whereas certificate students generally take all subjects at standard level and do not undertake the extended essay.

Course selection at this stage in a student's life entails important decisions and should be made in consultation with parents, teachers and a counsellor. These choices must take into account each student's:
