Communication

COMMUNICATION

Expression of meaning is fundamental to communicating ideas and problems in order to learn and understand. At IST, we ensure that verbal and non-verbal communication skills are developed.

Thus, students learn to communicate in English (medium of instruction) and one of the Languages B (Swahili, Spanish or French). Parents are encouraged to develop their child’s mother tongue. Our Student Services department can provide parents with ways in which to do this. For example,

  1. acquiring reading texts in mother tongue
  2. discoursing with child on a variety of subjects in mother tongue
  3. providing child with a journal to encourage development of writing skills in mother tongue
  4. having a bilingual dictionary for the child to use at home and at school.

By becoming proficient in a language or multiple languages, the student’s confidence and self-esteem strengthen.

Communication unites all the disciplines and is the means by which the students show their understanding of their world.
