Sitting in front of your computer trying to research your new home in Tanzania can be a daunting process. Where do you even begin? What do you search? What websites should you follow?

To make this process a little easier, here are five handy websites which take you through everything you need to know about Dar es Salaam.

The websites below will help you find fellow expats to connect with, provide helpful tips on anything - and everything - you might have questions about and several offer downloadable guides so you can have the information you need on hand.

1. Tanzania Now

Tanzania Now is an easy-to-maneuver travel guide for everything you need to know about Dar es Salaam. It’s broken down into 12 sub-categories where you click to find precisely what you’re looking for, be it a local exercise facility or where to shop for clothes.

The site also has a section of articles written by expats and travelers. These are highly relatable articles since the writer shares lived experiences with you and your family.

2. TripAdvisor

If you're looking for a first-person perspective, TripAdvisor is your “go to” website. If someone answers your questions, you will have the opportunity to read through many answers full of useful information.

Though the information is useful and you have a first-person perspective, there are usually no inline links in users’ answers, which means you have to go one step further to research what is referenced.

The perks of this website are things, ideas, restaurants, hotels, etc. you find on the site will contain photos, reviews, ratings, the location and the website - if they have one.

3. Expat

As one of the “go-to” expatriate websites, Expat is a phenomenal source of information for connecting with other expat families. You’ll be able to find first-hand knowledge on almost anything you’re curious about in Tanzania.

4. InterNations

InterNations is another useful expatriate online community where you can connect with fellow expats, research anything you want to know about Dar es Salaam - or any country for that matter. It also provides helpful, downloadable guides for moving to your new home.

However, to be able to access everything, it is going to cost you a little bit of money, but there’s a free, 30-day trial if you want to try it out.

5. ExpatWoman

Whether it’s about expat clubs, information on schools, facts about the country, resident and work visa information, how to get a driver's license, where to live or how to access healthcare, ExpatWoman has you covered.

ExpatWoman is a free and informative expatriate website written by women for women.

Using the sites above, you’ll be able to answer the questions that keep swimming through your mind; you’ll have direction when it comes to researching your new home. But what you’ll quickly discover is that you have too much information and no way to truly maneuver through it. When this problem arises, we know the perfect next step.

We’ve created an eBook taking you through everything you need to know to make Dar es Salaam feel like home including learning about the local culture, weekend activities you need to try, where the expat communities are and how to pick the perfect school for your children.
