Alumni President's Welcome

Dear former student,
I write to you on behalf of the IST Alumni Association to encourage you to become a life member of our organization.

As you have now left the school you will have gathered together a variety of memories, hopefully most will have been good. Experience as shown us (past IST students who have left the school) that in due course we are all drawn back to our school and wish to renew old acquaintances and friendships, or simply to be informed and kept up to date with developments at IST. Experience has also taught us that once contact is lost it is very difficult to ‘track down’ departed students. I have heard for example of many students who have past through the ranks of IST and who have tried getting together or have tried to look up fellow IST acquaintances to arrange reunions. I have heard of it in Toronto, New York and London………..and I presume that it has happened in many other places in the world.

It is with these thoughts in mind that I hope that you will consider joining the IST Alumni Association. Like many schools around the world that have Alumni Associations, we now have one operating at IST. This has been set up by a team of us who are all former students and our foremost aim is to bring together the former IST student community.

The Association was established in 2003, the year that marked the 40th Anniversary of the schools establishment. It first opened its doors on September 3rd 1963. The Association is currently run by a management committee of former students which was elected to their positions by former students at a meeting in Dar es Salaam October 2005. The members of this committee are:

IST ALUMNI EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

Mrs. Dialla Kassam President
Mr. Riaz Bharwani Vice-President
Mrs. Annelie Fouquet Junior Vice-President
Mr. Jitesh Ladwa Treasurer
Mr. Manish Thakrar Secretary
Mr. Jayesh Shah Member
Mrs. Neena Bush Member
Mr. Scott Coles Member
Mr. Raunak Somgal Member
Mr. Anwar Jessa Member

The purpose of the Association as we see it at the moment is:

1. To ensure that an accurate data base is kept of all former students of the school who wish to become life members;

2. To facilitate contact between the members of the Alumni;

3. To promote the good name of IST at home and abroad;

4. To provide newsletters during the year which will keep members of the school up to date with improvements and activities of other former students;

5. To organize functions which will bring former students together (Reunions)

6. To support the activities of the International School of Tanganyika.

The Alumni Association and I would love you to join this unique group of people. We would appreciate it very much if you would give it serious consideration. The one off Life Membership fee is US$100. It can be paid by cheque in Dar es Salaam to: “The International School of Tanganyika” (the school is operating a holding account for our membership funds), or paid in cash at the school. This can be done by posting or delivering a local account cheque or delivering cash to Mrs. Farida Bandili at the Accounts Department at the IST UN Road Administration building. Mrs. Bandili is helping us at the moment whilst we set up our offices. If cheques are posted locally, they should be sent to:

Farida Bandili,
Accounts Department
IST Alumni Association
International School of Tanganyika
PO Box 2651. UN Road
Dar es Salaam

NB Please do not post cheques from overseas as this incurs a US$50 clearing fee. Please click here for details of electronic transfers.

Please also complete the enclosed questionnaire and post it with your cheque or leave it with Mrs. Bandili at the UN Road. This will allow us to establish your information and maintain contact with you. In due course you will be able to update your information through the IST website. A data base is currently being established.

I look forward very much to hearing from you shortly and welcoming you to the IST Alumni Association.

Yours sincerely.
