The After-School Sports Programme
IST is renowned throughout the world of IB schools as a leader in academics, year after year achieving results that place us among the cream of the crop. It has received as much recognition for its celebrated extra-curricular activities – and a large part of the after-school experience here at IST is our Sports Program.
Year by year our school continues to expand on its popular list of sporting activities offered.
In addition to these in-school activities, a team of students at the secondary school is selected every year for each of the two mountain climbing expeditions the school has to offer – the March expedition to Mount Kilimanjaro, and the May trek to the top of Mount Meru.
Although some of the sports activities meet once or twice a week for training and fun only, many have a more defined goal: competition! The two ISSEA tournaments held each year – one in November for Volleyball and Soccer players, the other in March for Basketballers – involve six international schools from all around East and South Africa. In addition, in-country and local tournaments, such as the popular and varied Moshi Tournament, provide athletes who play other sports with a chance to showcase their skills in game situations. At the elementary school IST hosts the Dar Independent Schools Football League and a basketball league for hundreds of students from throughout Dar es Salaam. Another popular elementary event is the annual Triathlon featuring an on-campus course for hundreds of IST students.
With its variety of activities on offer, enthusiastic coaching staff and able student participants, the IST Sports Program offers something for everyone.
