ISSEA Basketball Results

The IST ISSEA (International School in Southern and East Africa) basketball teams arrived back from the recent tournament in Johannesburg on Sunday.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Boys Team: Brit Rustad, Jeremy Cecil, Abhishek Sarkar, Joshua Kelly, Sameer Gajjar, Pasque Mawalla, Sebastiaan Dorst, Kaijuko  Mukandala, Zishan Dawood

Girls Team: Katheryn Piper, Yoko Tomita, Julia Salerno, Utibe Ibom, Onuremi Onabanjo, Julia Miranda, Stella Yoh, Maya Wegerif, Nina Verduin.

After the round robin tournament on Thursday and Friday IST were in extremely strong positions.

The boy’s team was in third spot (Winning three and losing two)
The Girls team was in second spot (winning four and losing one)

On Saturday in the knock out competition

The boy’ beat ICS (Ethiopia) in the quarter finals but lost to Johannesburg in the semi final. They narrowly lost to Harare in the third place play off, finishing fourth overall.
The Girls agonizingly lost in the semi finals to ICS (by one point after being 10 points up), but bounced back to beat Harare in the 3rd place play off to clinch a respectable third place. They were also voted the team showing the best sportspersonship award

Special congratulations should go to the athletes who were selected by the coaches and Athletic Directors of the six schools for The All Tournament Teams.

All the athletes gave their best both on and off the court and were a credit to themselves and the school.

A big thank you is due to the coaches Daryl Rustad and Bahati Mgunda for their time and commitment in preparing and traveling with the teams to Johannesburg.
