Extended studies programme - ESP week 2007
Group in Amani forest

Grade 8 ESP Trip to Tanga and Amani

The Grade 8 ESP Trip to Tanga and Amani was a roaring success this year. What made the trip particularly exciting was the opportunity to experience the lush forest of Amani Nature Reserve as well as the crystal blue waters of the Indian ocean. The grade was split up into two groups. One group went to Amani while the other travelled to Peponi Beach Resort just south of Tanga. After two days the groups changed places and visited the vast Amboni Caves on the way.

In Amani students and teachers spent time hiking through the forest with two informative nature guides who pointed out various flora and fauna. The group ate lunch at the top of the mountain in a picturesque village. It was fantastic to be in one of the most ecologically diverse places in Tanzania. Students cooked for themselves and camped while in Amani.

In Peponi, the group had the opportunity to go sailing on board a Tanzanian dhow. We sailed out to Sand Island where we picnicked and snorkeled. In additiion to snorkeling and swimming, the group competed in various beach olympic games.

All in all, it was a great week of bonding, learning and appreciating Tanzania. Thanks to everyone who was involved in planning this fun and rewarding excursion!
