The Activities Programme at IST is an integral aspect of every student's life. As an IB World School, and one in a developing country, the concept of Community and Service is adopted enthusiastically by students and staff. On any given afternoon students from all levels can be found with visiting community groups in the pool, on the courts or in the art rooms. They can also be found around Dar visiting places such as orphanages, the Cancer Hospital, or nursery schools.
Students at IST are also afforded many physical activities, both competitive and cooperative. Climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro or Mt. Meru, basketball, football, volleyball, diving, swimming, netball, rugby and floor hockey are just some of the sports available. Competitive highlights include the Dar Independent Football League at the Elementary School involving hundreds of kids every Friday, and the school's successful membership in the International Schools of Southern and Eastern Africa (ISSEA) Athletic Conference. Comprised of the top international schools from South Africa, Uganda, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Ethiopia and, of course, Tanzania, this is a chance for the school's top athletes to test themselves against some of the best competition in Africa.
The Arts programme is also one of pride for IST. Students consistently produce stunning art displays, amazing musical performances and a wide range of plays. The International Schools Theatre Association (ISTA) MYP 'Arts Experience' Festival in May 2004 saw IST hosting International school students and teachers from around the world!
